A cookie as daring as its namesake, the Moravian Butter Rum Cookie – fondly known as “Blackbeard’s Cookie” – is bold, buttery, and steeped in Carolina folklore. Inspired by North Carolina’s most infamous pirate, it’s handcrafted with vanilla, rum, brown sugar, cocoa, and warm spices for a rich, aromatic finish. Each batch is baked in Winston-Salem by five generations of Wilkerson bakers.
In 1925, Dewey Guy Wilkerson, Sr. set out to create a perfect spice cookie. He succeeded, and Wilkerson Bakery was born. Today, five generations later, the Wilkerson family’s Moravian baked goods are beloved across North Carolina and beyond. Chelsi and Drake Wilkerson, along with their brothers Kidd and Kane, work beside their father to carry their family legacy into its next century – honoring tradition while continuing to innovate with care and pride, always guided by the unspoken promise that every batch should be better than the one before.
