The Brooklyn Blackout Cake – Ebinger’s WWII-era chocolate institution named for the neighborhood blackout drills that darkened the borough to protect the Navy Yard – lives on in brownie form at Brooklyn Blackout Company, operating from the Navy Yard itself since those warships departed. Each tin packs fudge-dense, dark-chocolate brownies built on the same crumb-coated flavor lineage that made Ebinger’s Brooklyn’s most mourned bakery when it closed in 1972. The Yard is thriving again; the chocolate tradition with it.
