Sarge’s cheesecakes are built to the same excess as its sandwiches: over three inches tall, nine inches across, and north of seven and a half pounds each. The recipe has been in the family for more than a century, and dozens are baked fresh daily inside the Murray Hill deli-diner Abe “Sarge” Katz, a retired NYPD sergeant, opened on Third Avenue in 1964. Choose your own style of this towering New York classic from one of the city’s last make-everything-in-house delis.
