It all started with English walnut povitica and, to this day, the bakery hand rolls more English walnut than any of their other flavors. They crush their English walnuts right from the farm. folding in layers of sweet creamery butter, honey, and a touch of real sugar to make their filling exactly how it’s been done for three generations. Strawberry Hill creates their own flakey pastry dough and enrobea their fillings with just enough to hold them all together. The result is simply a big hug of art and taste.
Since 1903, Strawberry Hill Baking Co. in Kansas City, Kansas, has been making povitica (pronounced poh-va-TEET-sa), a classic Slovenian swirled pastry stuffed with fillings enrobed in ultra-thin, buttery, flaky pastry dough. Using a povitica recipe that has been passed down from generation to generation, Strawberry Hill Baking Co. makes povitica in flavors like apple cinnamon, cokolada (chocolate), and their signature English walnut.
