Born in Louisville, Kentucky, where its name was pulled from a hat in 1954, the Derby-Pie is a Kern’s Kitchen original that remains the only place in the country baking it. These four individual 3 oz tarts stack a buttery, flaky crust with a gooey chocolate and California walnut filling, each shell hand-pressed and every egg hand-cracked. The recipe is known to only five people and federally trademarked – the definitive version of a Kentucky treasure. Shipped frozen with protective insulation, the tarts are best served oven-warmed to bring out the rich chocolate depth, elegant individual portions ready to plate for every guest.

- Each mini pie measures 3″ × 3″ × 1.5″ and weighs approx. 12 oz.
INSTRUCTIONS / STORAGE
- Kern’s Kitchen ships Monday through Thursday each week
- Orders cannot be shipped to P.O. Boxes
- Orders shipped to Alaska and Hawaii via 2-day will incur an additional $20 charge or $35 for Overnight
- Pies ship frozen with ice packs, may thaw in transit.
- Upon arrival, store pies at room temperature for up to 6 days, in the refrigerator for up to 6 weeks, or keep frozen for up to 6 months.
To Serve
- Best served oven-warmed to bring out the rich chocolate depth.
- Pro Tip: Pre-slice before warming!
- Heat oven to 350°F.
- Bake for 15-17 minutes.
